Being on Kairos itself comes with a lot of responsibility. Being sworn to secrecy, opening your heart to others, and strengthening your relationship with God are just a few of the experiences that happen while on Kairos. While on Kairos, one might decide that is in fact an AMAZING opportunity and that they would like to lead the next retreatants on their spiritual journey. It takes a lot of work to become a leader.

Shortly after Kairos, Mr. Conard contacts the retreatants about being a leader. To be a leader, you have to fill out an application and have an interview with Mr. Conard. The interview is nothing too scary or serious. Mr. Conard uses the interview as a way of getting to know the seniors since he does not know or have many of them in his class.

Once selected as a leader, the leaders meet twice a week. The meetings run until about 4:30 and are filled with food, discussion, prayer, and knowledge of how to be a leader. It’s a lot of fun getting to know the other leaders on a more personal level. It’s also a lot of fun getting to plan the retreat because you get to see what it’s like behind the scenes and all of the chaos that comes with Kairos.

Aside from the meetings, the leaders have the biggest responsibility of all; shopping. When my leaders told me how much money they spent on Kairos, I thought it was an exaggeration. After shopping on my own, I found that it was, in fact, not an exaggeration and that I also have no self control. Buying decorations, gifts, and food really gets to the best of someone.

There’s so much more that I could write in this article, but I’m not going to spoil all the secrets! To everyone headed on this next Kairos; you’re in for a lot of fun! Live the fourth!
